Czy wiesz, że ... / Do you know ...

Do you know that
- the amount of household waste produced in Poland a year equals a pyramid with a square base whose side is one kilometre long and the pyramid is the height of a 45-storey building ?
- each recycled glass bottle saves the energy used for the light of a 100-watt electric bulb in four hours ?

Do you know that
- producing a ton of paper requires the logging of 17 trees. Two million tons of paper a year are produced in Poland, which involves the logging of 34 million trees?
- the recycling of a newspaper pile the height of 125 metres allows to save a 6-metre-high pine tree?

Do you know that
- glass products, e.g. bottles, jars are 100 per cent recyclable?
- each of us throws away 56 glass containers a year that could be recycled?
- if every Pole once a year throws away a used jar of jam, 10 million kilograms of glass will pile up on the landfill?

Do you know that
- 400 million aluminium cans are used in Poland every year. They could be recycled and reused an endless number of times. Six scrap cans save the energy burnt by one litre of fuel?
- 1 litre of engine oil poured in a river or a sewage system can contaminate 1 million litres of water?
- if we put the PET bottles thrown away every year one on top of the other, they would build a 28-million-kilometre-high tower, that is 73 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon?
